Areas D and X: Free Invitation Seats (advance lottery only) (Free)

The only free viewing is by pre-application lottery: 6,500 beach seats for Chiba residents (Area D) and up to 34,000 Makuhari Messe parking-lot spots (Area X); applications closed on 2026-05-19 and winners were notified by postcard from July 1. There is no walk-up free viewing at all - organizers explicitly ask people without a ticket or winning postcard to stay away from the venue area, and surrounding footbridges are closed 19:15-20:30.

How to Buy Tickets

Paid seats went on sale 2026-05-22 at 13:00, led by FANY Ticket and also sold through Ticket Pia (P-code 661-036/037/052/054), Lawson Ticket (L-code 31629), eplus and Seven Ticket, plus convenience-store terminals, Chiba Urban Monorail stations and several Makuhari hotels (Hotel New Otani Makuhari sells restaurant-plus-viewing packages on its own site). As of early July 2026, premium options (S-area group seats, Stadium BOX and quartet seats, and the onsen Area F) are sold out, while Areas A, B, E, most stadium seats, H and I remain available. All official sales channels operate in Japanese only, so overseas visitors will likely need Japanese-language navigation, a proxy service, or a hotel package.

Getting There

The venue is Makuhari Seaside Park (Makuhari Kaihin Koen) and surrounding facilities in Mihama Ward, Chiba City, a 15-20 minute walk from Kaihimmakuhari Station on the JR Keiyo Line, which is about 30 minutes from Tokyo Station. There is no car or motorcycle parking, so public transport is essential; extra shuttle buses run between Makuharihongo Station and the venue area. Traffic restrictions apply around the site, and five nearby pedestrian footbridges are closed from 19:15 to 20:30.

Crowd & Timing Tips

Weather Policy

Frequently Asked Questions

What time do the fireworks start in 2026?

The show runs 19:30 to 20:30 on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Viewing areas open at 16:30 (the Makuhari Messe parking area at 16:00), and arriving well before launch is recommended because approaches become extremely crowded.

Is there anywhere to watch for free?

Effectively no for visitors deciding now: the only free seats (Areas D and X) were allocated by an advance lottery that closed on May 19, 2026, and the organizers state there are no viewing spots around the venue for people without a ticket or winning postcard, asking them not to come to the area. The show is also streamed and broadcast live by Chiba TV.

Where is the best place to watch?

The beach seats closest to the launch site are Areas S, A and B: Area A faces the big aerial shells, while Area B is angled toward the sea-launched fireworks skimming over Tokyo Bay. ZOZO Marine Stadium (Area G) offers reserved seats with the sea fireworks shown on the giant screen.

How do I buy tickets?

Tickets went on sale May 22, 2026 via FANY Ticket, Ticket Pia, Lawson Ticket, eplus and Seven Ticket (online and at convenience-store terminals), with additional sales at Chiba Monorail stations and Makuhari hotels. The sales sites are Japanese-only; children of elementary-school age and up need their own ticket, and resale is prohibited.

What happens if it rains?

The festival is held in light rain; in storms or strong winds it is canceled with no postponement, and the go/no-go decision is announced on the official website by 9:00 on the morning of the event. Face-value refunds are given only if cancellation occurs before the launch begins.

How many fireworks are launched?

About 24,000 shells in 2026 - the most in the festival's history and one of the largest counts in Japan - including roughly 5,000 sea fireworks over the bay, around 100 large-caliber shells, and a ZOZO-sponsored finale of about 10,000 shells.
