Where to Stay for Atami Marine Fireworks Festival 2026

Last updated: July 12, 2026

Atami runs its fireworks about ten times a year over the bay, and the whole town is built around hot-spring hotels — many with rooms that face the launch site directly. That makes this one of the few festivals in Japan where 'watch the fireworks from your bath' is a realistic plan, if you book the right way.

Atami Marine Fireworks Festival takes place on July 20, 2026 (Mon) — see the full festival guide for tickets, viewing spots and access.

How early do rooms go? Sea-facing rooms and viewing-plan packages are best secured six months out, and no later than about three months before a summer date. The summer dates sell out far faster than the autumn and winter ones — off-peak dates often have rooms available surprisingly late.

Where to Stay

Atami Sun Beach area (Best if you can get it)

Hotels along the bay front look straight at the fireworks — this is the premium option and the first to go. Confirm before booking exactly what is visible from the room category you're buying, whether the hotel has a guest viewing deck, and the free-cancellation deadline; visibility varies a lot between hotels.
The beach venue is a 15–25 minute (hilly) walk from Atami Station; bay-front hotels are on the venue itself.

Around Atami Station (hillside) (The realistic option)

Noticeably easier to book than the bay-front view hotels, and more convenient if you're arriving by Shinkansen. You watch from the beach with everyone else, then walk uphill to bed while the day-trippers queue for the station.
15–25 minutes on foot to the beach venue, with slopes.

Ajiro Onsen (south Atami) (The realistic option)

A quieter hot-spring district two stops down the Ito Line that keeps rooms available after central Atami fills, and some ryokan here sell festival packages with transport and viewing included. Note the road back gets congested right after the show.
About 15 minutes from Atami Station on the JR Ito Line, plus bus or taxi.

Can you do it as a day trip?

From Tokyo, yes — the Shinkansen reaches Atami in about 40–50 minutes from Shinagawa, and day-tripping is what most visitors do. Be warned about the exit: between about 9pm and 10pm Atami Station operates entry restrictions and the queue to the ticket gates can take an hour (the city officially warns about this). Locals either wait it out or walk to neighboring Kinomiya Station on the Ito Line.
